The photographs represented in this project are from the OZET collection of the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St.Petersburg and from the World ORT Archive in London.
Following the liquidation of OZET in May 1938, practically all the visual materials from the archive of the OZET Central Council in Moscow were given to the Ethnographic Museum of the Peoples of the USSR in Leningrad (now the Russian Museum of Ethnography); they included several thousand photographic negatives and slides.
In 2001–2002 these materials were processed and catalogued by the reseachers from the ‘Petersburg Judaica’ Center. As a result of this work an exhibition entitled ‘Red Zion’ opened in St. Petersburg in the ‘Petersburg Judaica’ Exhibition Hall, 2003.
